Audacity Book Club: July Read

Audacity Book Club: July Read

By Nic Daniels

Welcome back, audacious readers!

We are continuing with the last book in Hot Love Summer and our final book before we enter year two of the Audacity Book Club! Last month, we went the growing pains of moving on while falling in love with She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen. Now, we’re finding love even at the end of the world with The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow.

In a post-alien invasion New York City, all 17-year-old Ellie Baker is trying to do is hold onto the last of her humanity. Stuck in a community building that’s run by invaders called the Ilori, all creative expression is banned, including music and books. While Ellie has never been a rebel, she refuses to give up all her art and decides to run a secret library.

When young Ilori commander, M0rr1s, accidently discovers it, he should tell his fellow commanders, but he has a secret of his own: he loves music. So much so, he secretly listens to human music every chance he can. He quickly founds himself captivated with Ellie’s willingness to risk everything for art and decides to save her when the library is discovered by higher authorities. The duo is forced to flee, constantly finding themselves with their backs against the wall. With the Ilori days away from taking over the entire planet, they have to trust each other to survive and be brave enough to be themselves. But will it be enough to save the world?

The Sound of Stars is an adventurous, sci-fi romance about art, love, and how much you will risk for freedom. This book is available wherever books are sold as well as your local library. I hope you enjoy, and I will see you at the end of the month for the full review.

Until then, don’t forget to read audaciously!
