Audacity Book Club: June Read

Audacity Book Club: June Read

By Nic Daniels

Welcome back, audacious readers!

Alright, I’m deeming this Hot Love Summer because between last month’s, this month’s, and next month’s book, you’re getting romance all season long. Last month, we explored the heartfelt journey of X and Evie in Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon. This month, love is love is love with our book She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen.

Scottie Zajac is the star player on her high school basketball team that has seen better days. After her girlfriend, Tally, breaks up with her to play basketball for the rival high school, she’s a mess. Constantly questioning herself, Scottie’s game is off and her confidence lower than ever, which leads to an embarrassing loss to her ex and a car accident with her nemesis and head cheerleader, Irene.

After they’re forced to carpool, their relationship leads to less understanding and more bickering that has both girls ready to never see each other again. However, when a rumor sparks Tally’s jealousy, Scottie has an idea to get back at her ex by fake-dating Irene. But what starts out a scheme quickly turns into a clash of feelings that has Scottie wondering what she truly wants. She Drives Me Crazy is a rom com that not only has a couple you want to root for but a journey that will have you hoping that future teens will follow in her footsteps.

This book is available everywhere where books are sold and is now available in paperback. It may be available in your local library. However, because this book is centered around a LGBTQ+ couple, be aware there may be a book ban on it. If this is the case, research out-of-state libraries that are willing to let you borrow the eBook because the last thing the state should be allowed to do is dictate what’s “appropriate” for your bookshelf.

I hope you enjoy it and make sure to check out the full review at the end of the month. Until then, don’t forget to read audaciously!
