Audacity Book Club: January Read

Audacity Book Club: January Read

By Nic Daniels

Happy new year, audacious readers!

We’re getting a bit of a late start but fear not. We’re starting off the year with an adventure. Last month, we explored the power of self-love in the novel 30 Things I Love About Myself by Radhika Sanghani. This month, we’re discovering the power of legacies—for better or for worse—with The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina by Zoraida Córdova.

Though the saying is “the sins of a father,” the sins of a mother can be just as heavy. The Montoyas know extraordinarily little about their matriarch, Orquídea Divina. They only know that the magic that blesses them starts with her and that she never leaves her house in Four Rivers, no matter the occassion. When Orquídea invites them to her funeral, they hope her secrets will finally be revealed. Instead, she leaves them with more questions and three of her grandchildren with blessings.

Years later, those blessings turn into unexpected gifts for Marimar, Rey, and Rhiannon. At the same time, a mysterious figure begins hunt the Montoyas and the trio is forced back to go to Ecuador where Orquídea’s story begins to unravel along with the secrets and broken promises left behind.

A tale of family and magic, The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina shows that what’s done in the dark always comes to light. This book is available wherever books are sold as well as in your local library. I hope you enjoy it, and I will see you at the end of the month for the full review.

Until then, don’t forget to read audaciously!
