Audacity Book Club: Fall Break

Audacity Book Club: Fall Break

By Nic Daniels

Hello, audacious readers!

It’s offically fall, which means its the time of year again where we throw on our sweaters, pull our blankets, and find a cozy corner to escape for a bit. This is also the perfect time to take a much needed break! Now, while I am taking a break to focus on some non-book club situations (boo!), I’ve also seen some amazing spooky books come out recently. So, why narrow our October book down to just one?

Just like our spring break reading list, here’s a short list of spooky season reads:

  • You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight by Kalynn Bayron: A perfect read for those who love horror movies and want to see the “final girl” trope from a black girl’s point of view.

  • Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas: Vampires, vaqueros, invasions—oh my! This is supernatural story set in the 1840’s during the Mexico-United States border conflict.

  • Master of Death by Olivie Blake: Perfect for those who prefer thrills over chills this season. A vampire contacts a medium to get rid of a ghost to sell a house and chaos ensues.

  • The Only Good Indians by Stephan Graham Jones: Part psychological horror, part commentary on the American Indian experience, similar to Get Out, four families are haunted by an entity bent on revenge.

  • Never Whistle at Night by Shane Hawk & Theodore C. Van Last: For those who prefer short stories, this anthology explores the indigenous belief that one should never whistle at night and the chilling stories as to why.

  • Anything Spooky or Fall Themed: This is the perfect time to pick up a book that brings up images of fallen leaves, cider, and the supernatural. Pick up that autumn romance book or your old copy of Goosebumps to see of it still keeps you up at night.

Hope you guys enjoy this fall break! I’ll be back in November, ready to diversify your shelves once more. Until then, don’t forget to read audaciously!
