Audacity Book Club: December Read

Audacity Book Club: December Read

By Nic Daniels

Hello, audacious readers!

It’s the end 2023 and it has been nothing short of a rollercoaster! Last month, we explored the delved into an indigenous fantasy novel with Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse. This month, we’re rounding out the year with some self-love with contemporary novel, 30 Things I Love About Myself by Radhika Sanghani.

When turning 30, Nina Mistry pictured her life very differently. She thought she would be an accomplished journalist surrounded by friends and preparing to get married. Instead, she has just broken up with her fiancé, has no friends to call, is stuck at an unfulfilling freelance writing job, and is spending the night in jail.

Needless to say, she’s hit rock bottom.

However, a silver lining comes in the form of a book that an officer gives her to read called How to Love Yourself (and Fix Your Shitty Life in the Process). With nothing to lose and no distractions, she spends the night reading the book. By the time she’s released, she has a new goal. Over the course of the next year—through trial and error, for better or for worse—she’s going to find 30 things she loves about herself.

Comical and honest, 30 Things I Love About Myself is a reminder that it’s never too late to fall in love with yourself. This book is available wherever books are sold as well as in your local library. I hope you enjoy it, and I will see you at the end of the month for the full review.

Until then, don’t forget to read audaciously!
