Audacity Book Club: Fall Break

Audacity Book Club: Fall Break

By Nic Daniels

Hello, audacious readers!

I hope you had a fun and candy-filled spooky season! I also hope you exercised your right to vote. Last month, we entered the forbidden forest in The Butcher of the Forest by Premee Mohamed. Now, as we embrace the last few weeks of fall and transition into the holidays, I am cozying up in a corner and taking a much-needed break! As always with my seasonal breaks, I will be leaving you guys with a few suggestions that I hope you enjoy:

  • Poukahangatus by Tayi Tibble: Pronounced Pocahontas, Tibble takes mythologies from around the world and spins them into modern retellings for Māori women.

  • And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini: A multi-generational story of a brother and sister and the echoes of bond that follow them throughout their lives when they are separated as children.

  • Sisters of the Lost Nation by Nick Medina: A young Native girl searches through the myths and stories of her people to get answers about the women disappearing from her tribe’s reservation.

  • The Thread Collectors by Shaunna J. Edwards & Alyson Richman: Two women cross paths in New Orleans and risk everything for love and freedom during the Civil War.

  • Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones: Need a break from thrills, chills and reality? Read the book that inspired the Miyazaki classic.

  • Anything you want by Whoever you want: As you tell your co-workers “let’s circle back next year,” pull out that book you’ve been putting off all year.

I hope you guys enjoy this fall break! I’ll be back in December, ready to diversify your shelves once more. Until then, as always, don’t forget to read audaciously!
